Best Liquid Foundation For Oily Skin

The best liquid foundation for oily skin should be able to hide large pores, blemishes, pimples, blackheads, and spots effectively, and it should last for at least 4 hours. It should also be able to reduce the shine on your face without looking caked on.

Below is a list of the best liquid foundation for oily skin type:

Make up for Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation

Bare Minerals SPF 15 Matte Foundation

Mac Studio Fix Fluid Foundation with Spf 15

Revlon Colorstay Foundation

LORAC Natural Performance Foundation

Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation

Stila Stay All Day Foundation and Concealer

Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse

Note: This list does not include tinted-moisturizers, cream, or cream to powder foundations. That will be a separate post.

Choosing a foundation

When choosing a foundation for oily or combination skin, Look for foundation with labels that contain non-comedogenic ingredients. These are the ideal foundations for oily skin because they prevent acne and they do not cause makeup breakouts. The other thing to look for is the foundation should be a shine-reducing or a mattifying kind. They are formulated especially to prevent extra oil that can shine on your face.

If you have smooth skin that is free from blemishes and other imperfections, you should choose a light, tinted moisturizer. It is the ideal choice if you want a foundation for daily wear because it lets your pores breathe. For special occasions, choose a foundation that offers medium to heavy coverage. I personally have 2 kinds of foundations that I use. One is for a sheer cover for everyday wear, and the other is for a heavier coverage that is suitable for special occasions.

 How to apply foundation

You should apply a good-quality oil-free primer first before applying your foundation. Primer allows the foundation to glide smoothly on your face. It also makes your makeup last longer. If you have a skin discoloration, or other imperfections, apply a concealer after a primer. Take a small amount of foundation on your brush and apply it with an outward movement. Also apply the foundation on your neck in order for it to look more natural. Wait and let the foundation set for about 5 minutes, then brush on a mineralized light-weight powder for a finished look. Don’t forget to sanitize your brushes and sponges regularly. I wash my brushes once a week.

Remember, If you have an oily skin, you should apply a gel-based foundation to reduce your shiny look. Choose a foundation that will not only soak up the excess oils on your face, but also lasts all day long. Most makeup counters will let you test the foundation before you buy it.

Achieving Beautiful Full & Long Eyelashes

A pair of thick, long eyelashes beautifully makes your eyes pop, and when you have them, you can get away with wearing only minimal makeup. Whether you’re blessed with naturally long lashes or not, here are some tips for achieving the look and the products you need to give your lashes a helping hand in looking as long, full and luscious as possible.

    • Proper Nutrition — B vitamins, and especially biotin, can help eyelashes and the hair on your head grow. Additionally, a biotin deficiency can actually cause eyelashes to fall out. Boost your biotin intake with foods like nutritional yeast, liver, cauliflower, salmon, bananas, carrots, egg yolks, sardines, legumes, and mushrooms—all rich in biotin. Biotin supplements are also a good way to get those nutrients.
    • Picking the Right Mascara — Double up on your mascara by using two different ones with separate purposes. Pick your favorite lengthening mascara and layer it on, then follow-up with a coat of your go-to volumizing mascara. It’s hard to get both effects from just one mascara.
    • Applying Fake Eyelashes — Practice makes perfect. If you have a big event coming up, try out your lashes a few days before. You’re not going to get it perfect right off, so you don’t want to be panicking a few hours before your big night out. There are several how-to videos on YouTube on applying false lashes.
    • Eyelash Extensions — The process can take a couple of hours, but can provide you with a few weeks of beautiful, eye-batting lashes. To maintain the life of your extensions, try to sleep on your back. Carefully remove your eye makeup with removers that are not oil free, and brush out extensions daily to prevent tangling. If you properly care for your lashes, they can last from one to two months.

Prescription Treatments — If you’re sick of falsies, extensions, and endless tubes of mascara that never seem to do the trick, Latisse could be your answer. Latisse is a prescription topical medication that you apply to your lash line once a day. In most, it results in longer—sometimes mega-long, darker, thicker eyelashes.

Choosing the Right Red Lipstick

Red lipstick is one of the most glamorous shades a woman can wear.  The right shade of red can brighten a face, while the wrong red could overpower a makeup look and make one look gaudy. With the different skin tone and undertones in women, the right shade of red can depend on a number of factors, even the color of clothing.

When choosing a red for my clients, here are the rules I go by:

    • Pale/fair and light olive skin tends to look better in cool reds, berry reds like cranberry, with blue undertones.
    • Medium skin tones look great in brownish-reds.
    • Olive skin looks best in yellow or orange-based reds.
    • Dark skin can handle more intense color, like deep reds and reds with blue undertones. Fabulous wines, berries and brick reds look great.
    • You don’t have to toss a red that is too bright or too dark. A too light red can be deepened with a brown or wine-colored shade. You can give a dull or too dark red a little pizzazz with a pop of gold gloss or lighten dark red with pink or beige.
    • Also note that a lipstick’s texture, cream, matte or gloss, could have an effect on the way the shade looks on your lips.
    • If you still feel red lipstick is too bright for you, you can ease into red with a sheer lip gloss or try a lip stain to gradually add color.

How to Wear Red Lipstick

    • It’s best to pair bold red lips with minimal eye makeup. Keep the eye shadow soft or neutral with groomed eyebrows, precisely lined eyes and mascara.
    • A bold lip color needs smooth lips. Regularly exfoliate the lips to prevent flaking and to keep the lips moisturized.
    • Use a lip primer before applying color.

Lupita’s beautiful skin and flawless makeup

Lupita's beautiful skin and flawless makeup

Congratulations Lupita Nyong’o on your oscar win!
“No matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid.” – Lupita Nyong’o

I hope young dark skinned girls who feel insecure about their dark skin can find some inspiration in Lupita and change the negative views they have of themselves. It’s true that women who look like her are not always portrayed in the media mainly because they are not deemed as being beautiful. She has proven quite the contrary. Not only is she beautiful – she is refreshing, smart, and classy.  It is my job as a mother to set good examples for my daughter, help shape a healthy self-image and be a role model for her to the best of my ability. I also understand the media influences our children’s image of self to a degree. I am so grateful that there are young ladies like Lupita Nyong’o, Alek Wek, Janelle Monae who seem to be comfortable in their skin. I certainly don’t mind my teenage daughter looking up to them.

Makeup Brushes with Description

sigma_brushes

Ever wonder what difference it makes which makeup brush you use for what? The brush you use has a lot to do with the final look of your makeup application. Many of you have asked me about the different makeup brushes and their functions. Here is a brief description of the basic makeup brushes out there (from left to right).

  1. Small Angle: Create precise lining. Moves fluidly and easily across the upper and lower lash lines. Use with gel, cream or powder liners.
  2. Medium Angled Shading: Soft application of color. Use for brow highlighting or to blend the crease.
  3. Large Shader: Uniformly cover the whole lid with product. Apply cream shadow base or cream shadow for quick and even coverage.
  4. Pencil: Soften and smoke out lines. Soften pencil liners along the top and bottom lash lines, add shadow to line the eyes, or use to highlight inner corner of eyes.
  5. Large Angled Contour: Subtle cheek application. Use the angle to softly contour the cheekbone. Can also be used to apply blush.
  6. Large Powder: Even powder application. Uniform blending of powder products onto the face and body.
  7. Duo Fibre: Creates an airbrush effect onto the skin. Can be used with powder, liquid or cream products.
  8. Foundation: Smooth foundation application. Apply liquid or cream products such as foundation and primer.
  9. Concealer Brush: Conceal small areas. Conceal the hardest to reach areas such as around the nose and eyes.
  10. Tapered Blending: Soft blended crease. Using just the tips to apply color, sweep back and forth through the crease for a diffused and blended finish.
  11. Eye Shading: Even application of color. Place color across the whole lid for an even and strong application of product.
  12. Eye Liner: Create smooth and even lines. Use with gel or liquid liners.

Some of my favorite brushes include:

Real Technique brushes, and they can be found at Ulta and at Target. I also like the Advanced Airbrush Set at Sephora.

Here’s to being effortlessly beautiful. 🙂

Hot Makeup Trends For Spring 2014

Makeup_Trends_2014

All makeup and beauty enthusiasts are buzzing about what the latest makeup trends are for the new Spring season, and ears were to the ground at the 2014 spring Fashion Week. Here are some of the trends spotted on the models during Fashion Week:

  • Ethereal White Eyeshadow with Liner – White eye makeup trend has been spotted all over the place, but very few people can pull this off. I always blend white eyeshadow with a neutral brown to give my lids a dewy freshness. You can layer All Over Shimmer Liquid Luminizer in Pink Shimmer and Eye Shadow in Opal. Create a cool cat eye with white shadow rimmed on inner corners of eyes, and liner across the lids on top.
  • Gilded Lids – Smudge some Le Crayon Khol in Black Coffee into creases and line the top lashes with a liquid liner in black. Then give the lids a wash of brown eyeshadow and top with actual loose gold glitter for a stunning metallic effect. Try a metallic pigment to pull this off, like MAC Pressed Pigment in Damson.
